Family Fun in City Hall & Churchill Square 

City Hall is the place to be for all of your Family Day fun! Enjoy performances by Hoffman & Brown, Nikolai the Juggler, a Concrete Theatre performance of the play The Early Bloomers, crafts, balloon sculptures and more! Then venture outside to go for a hayride and check out the Family Day games and activities on the Square. Food trucks will be on site. 

Time: Noon-4pm

Cost: Free!


Edmonton Valley Zoo

Bundle up your family, beat the winter blues and "Get Closer" for some Family Day Fun! Stay warm while you visit the Polar Bear craft table or participate in the Animal Families scavenger hunt. Learn why Edmonton Valley Zoo is an Arctic Ambassador Centre for Polar Bears International and visit our free photo booth to take home a family memory!

Time:  Noon-4pm (Please note: Zoo is open from 10am-4pm)

Recover Treasure at the Reuse Centre

The Reuse Centre is hosting a Family Day Open House event. Participate in a reuse crafting workshop, shop through the treasure trove of items or take a tour and learn more about reusing. 

Time: Noon-3pm
Location: 6835-83 Street
Cost: Free Activities. $5 for purchases up to 50kg


Outdoor Ice Rinks

Free skating is available at City of Edmonton outdoor ice surfaces in Hawrelak, Jackie Parker, Victoria and Castle Downs parks. Although Hawrelak Lake is closed, skaters are welcome on the Hawrelak Park alternate ice surface at Shelter #2, and the Freezeway skating trail is new this year, next to the Victoria Park Oval.

Edmonton Public Library

Visit your neighbourhood branch of the Edmonton Public Librarythis Family Day and take part in a unique array of special programs including movies, juggling, drum circles, puppet shows, storytelling, live music and more! Check out the complete schedule of events

Family Day at the AGA

The Art Gallery of Alberta invites families to enjoy exhibitions and art activities for free in celebration of Family Day. Visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities themed after our current exhibitions.

Time: 11am-5pm (Last entry at 4pm)
Location: #2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: Free


Family Day at the Legislature

A day of free family fun awaits indoors at the Alberta Legislature. Enjoy live music and magic performances, join the History Hunt, take part in aboriginal games and dance, build a replica Legislature Building in the Lego Zone, meet Rocky the Ram and more! Free parking is available in the east underground parkade during event times.

Time: 11am-4pm
Location: Edmonton Federal Building through the pedway and up to the fifth floor of the Legislature Building.
Cost: Free


Silver Skate Festival

Embrace winter at the Silver Skate Festival, a free family-friendly winter celebration in Hawrelak Park blending sport, recreation, arts and culture, showcasing various skating disciplines and promoting outdoor activities. Free weekend shuttle service. Visit silverskatefestival.orgfor details.

Family Day Unplugged 

The City of Edmonton is proud to support Family Day Unplugged, an initiative that encourages Edmontonians to take a break from technology and spend quality time with their most important social network – their family! Examples of unplugged activities include a family board game, baking together or participating in one of the many events happening throughout the city. Take part in the Family Day Unplugged Twitter Contest by tweeting your photos for a chance to win a family prize pack! Check out some of the Family Day events hosted by Community Leagues participating in the Challenge.


Transit Information

Use an ETS Day Pass to travel with your family to Family Day events. Cost of the Day Pass is $9.25, which allows one adult and up to four children (ages 12 and under) to ride all day, including round trips and transfers.
