Consumer Alerts for Barrie home buyers - Follow these tips

Each year thousands of products are recalled due to malfunctions and potential hazards.  For home owners it's important to ensure that you are aware of the products and appliances you own and use on a daily basis.

What's the risk?  Well, potential bodily injuries, harm to infants and children, fire, and damage to your home.

What can you do to minimize your risk?  You should always fill out the warranty card for appliances and baby gear.  This allows the manufacturer to contact you right away if there are any recalls.

Or, visit the Canadian Consumer Alert website each month to ensure you are informed the latest warnings and recalls.  If you notice that one of your products is on the recall list, contact the manufacturer right away and follow their procedures.  Do not return it to the place where you purchased ie:  Walmart, Costco.

Items that are often recalled include, baby toys, clothing, car seats, cribs which is why you should avoid buying these types of things at garage sales and non-retailers.

Vehicles have many recalls as well.  If you have bought through a dealership they will generally contact you with info, however as a consumer you should always check into things yourself.

Here are only some of the latest from Health Canada.  For the full list of recalls and consumer alerts click here.
