The dirt on Earth Day

Ever wonder what Earth Day is really about, and what can you really do to make a difference?

Earth Day was originally founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, in 1970 to promote ecology and respect for our planet after witnessing the 1969 massive oil spill in California.

Today, every April 22nd the world observes Earth Day which involves anything from demonstrations, celebrations, and a focus on global awareness regarding pollution and climate change.

What you can do in your community, or with your kids:

  • clean up a local park or your school yard.
  • pick up litter in your neighbourhood
  • plant some trees in your yard
  • use less energy in your home
  • recycle recycle recycle
  • support the Earth Day initiative or a local eco charity

Remember ever little bit counts, big or small.  Let's make every day Earth Day, and make a difference for   generations to come.
