Excellent information for first time buyers ...

Most first time buyers may be intimated by the house buying process.  I pride myself in taking the time to explain it all, get buyers pre-approved for financing, and attend to all the other details on a timely basis as to not "overwhelm".  Home ownership is the first step to building a financial future.  Buyers should view their home as their "piggy bank".  You should be able to build equity each year you live in the house so that your monthly payments which you would have paid in rent is going into your "piggy bank" so that when you sell, you should be able to take your money out plus make a profit ... as the cost of housing increases, the value of your home should also increase.  When you have equity in a home, the world opens up to you and you enjoy the comfort of the security and pride you feel you feel when you have purchased a home.

Personal Background

I've lived in the Halifax/Dartmouth area most of my life, except a 3 year term in Edmonton, Alberta in early 1980.  I've been married since 1970 to the love of my life and we have an incredible daughter and a two awesome grandsons.  She and her family live 5 minutes away from us.  We have a long haired tabby cat named Angus who has an attitude.  We have had but have lost to old age, two wonderful golden retrievers.  Life is good - I feel truly blessed.  I have a career I love, helping people fulfill their dreams with the home buying and selling part.  I grew up in a family of building contractors, carpenters, electricians and the like.  My husband has been over 40 years in the construction industry on the commercial side.  In his early work years when he surveyed, I would help out on occasion holding the plumb bulb while he took shots.  We built our first home when we were 23 so the whole "house and land thing" is very familiar to me.  I have always worked, mostly as support, but working my way through excellent companies learning the ropes.  Thirty-three years later, I had a wake up call ... I became a Realtor.  I've won awards every year I've been in the business and have an excellent work ethic.  I pride myself with my paperwork (8 years with a law firm) and client service.  There is a saying in the legal business that whoever has the best paperwork wins.  Where one can never predict any outcomes in any business dealings, I never worry about my paperwork.  I don't have an assistant.  You work with me and only me.  My phone is on early morning until bedtime, 7 days a week.   I'm the best secretary I could hire and have a fully functional home office.  Plus my clients think I'm wonderful.  Why would you want anyone else?

Personal Interests

I am an animal lover who commits to them for life.  My husband and I enjoy our 8 year old long haired feline (similar to a Maine Coon Cat) who seems to allow us to live with him.  We were blessed with a daughter who lives with her husband and our young grandson just a few minutes away from us.  They have a young yellow lab who loves to come and visit Nanny and Grampy.  Much of our time is enjoying our relationship with them.  We live near Shubie Park so enjoy long walks in the Park plus lots of water activities in the sumer.  We also enjoy the family cottage on Northumberland Strait in Pictou County in the summer.  I enjoy yoga and cooking ... strange combination but works for me.  We like to entertain and enjoy our many friends and family.  I always appreciate loyality from my clients,  friends and family, the basis of which is so important for a successful practice.

Specialties

I represent many people with resale homes but also list and sell brand new construction.  I usually work within the HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) area (up to about 45 minutes away from my home office).  Beyond that, I feel I cannot do justice to the listing, so usually refer the listing to another top producer Century 21 agent from that region.  If I am familiar with an area outside of the HRM area (such as cottage country on the North Shore or properties on the South Shore) then I will help buyers in those areas.

Professional Background

If ever there were a background to prepare me for the business of real estate, then my background couldn't be better scripted.  I spent four years with the main branch of the Bank of Montreal, 8 years with the Dept. of Finance of the Province of Nova Scotia in accounting, 3 years with a child psychology/learning disabilities clinic, 8 years with Deloittes, a CA firm; 8 years with Stewart McKelvey, a law firm; a couple of years with NS Power and Aliant plus I was lucky enough to be born into a family of builders and contractors.  My Dad and grandfather built in Clayton Park for the first phase of their development in the early 1960's and oddly enough, one of my favourite childhood memories is the smell of sawdust.  My husband is also a builder and we have done many personal building projects together.  I am familiar with and adore working with new construction and display a keen scrutiny with resale housing.

I have been a licensed Realtor for 9 years winnng awards with Century 21 every year I've been in the business.  I take my responsibility to my buyers and sellers to heart and treat each deal as if it were for me personally.  As a result, I have a loyal, happy client base and appreciate and look after their repeat business and their referrals to their friends and family.

Professional Interests

I like to keep in touch with the alumni of my past places of employment.  Deloittes has many alumni activities which are great opportunities to touch base with past friends and to meet new ones.  I enjoy good relationships with many from my past work experiences and network often.

Education

I graduated from high school in 1969 and have a diploma as a secretary which has served me well in multi-tasking and working with excellent companies throughout the years ... learning all the way.
