Bank of Canada lowers overnight rate target by 1/4 percentage point to 1/4 per cent and, conditional on the inflation outlook, commits to hold current policy rate until the end of the second quarter of 2010.
What does all this mean? Prime Rate is at 2.25%, and Variable Rate mortgages can be found at around 3.00% (which is prime + .75%) and a 5 year fixed rate 3.69%. Thinking of Selling ...

According to a News Released issued by Canada Mortgage And Housing Corporation (CMHC) on April 6, 2009, which states "Ontario home starts bucked a three month downtrend by moving higher in March. Ontario preliminary Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR) of urban home starts rose to 60,900 unit starts, up from 45,100 starts in February." This represents an increase of 35 percent.

According to a recent Regional Report, local construction topped $1 Billion last year, for the first time ever. That represents a 28 percent increase in construction values over 2007.

Estimate show the population, according to a report in The Record, of Cambridge in 2008 is at 127,900 and Waterloo Region as a whole stands at 533,700 residents, an increase of 10,300 from 2007, that's an increase of about 2% when planners predicted a decrease of 1.2 percent.

The office vacancy rate for Waterloo Region as reported in "The Record" is significantly lower than the national average of 7.5%. Among ten Canadian markets surveyed, Waterloo Region had the lowest at 4.6%.
