Could Nordegg be The Next Banff??

This is a question that has peaked my interest…these destinations seem to have so many similarities yet have developed so differently….is it possible that Nordegg could be known as a popular resort destination like Banff some day?  Let’s compare=)

BANFF: was first settled in the 1880’s after the transcontinental railway was built through the bow valley.  3 Canadian Pacific Railway workers stumbled upon a series of natural hot springs in the area and it was decided to promote this as a resort and spa as way to support the new railway

NORDEGG: In 1907 Martin Nordegg of the German Development Company staked claims covering coal deposits near the Brazeau and North Sask. Rivers and the Canadian Northern Railway agreed to build a rail line to the northern part of the area, this led to the founding of the coal mining town named Nordegg.

BANFF:  In 1985 the united nations declared Banff National Park as one of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, a world Heritage Site.

NORDEGG:  In 1993 was declared a Provincial Historic Resource and a National Historic Site of Canada in 2002.

BANFF:  Surrounded by mountains, notably Mount Rundle, Sulphur Mountain, Mount Norquay and Cascade Mountain.  Located above Bow Falls and new the Bow River.  Visitors and residents enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, the hot springs, and all the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

NORDEGG: Surrounded by mountains, notably Coliseum and Shunda Mountain, near Ram Falls Provincial Park and the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve.  Visitors and residents who find themselves here enjoy the last community on the David Thompson Highway before reaching Banff National Park.  In the “bighorn backcountry”  they will find plenty of the most beautiful hiking trails, camp sites, ATV trails and all the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

Well, I don’t know about you but after reading and picking some highlights from both locations, I get the feeling that Nordegg could very well be a newborn Banff.  No one really knows what can happen but it would seem to me that the most logical evolution of Nordegg would be to create another majestic mountain resort area…it’s just a question of when and probably how for a lot of people.

Word of mouth is still the most powerful marketing tool, I believe, so maybe we just need to “spread the word”!!  Here is a sampling of properties currently for sale in the Nordegg area; maybe you could be the trendsetter that starts the boom in Nordegg, Alberta!?
