I moved here in 1984, young love, about the only thing I can think of that would have ever had me move away from my family in Squamish, BC. Still miss the mountains, the ocean and of course family but Portage has tons to offer too.
I am often in awe of the magnificent sunrises and sunsets we have. The perfect place to enjoy these is to combine it with a stroll on our walking path around Crescent Lake. Depending on the time of year, on that stroll you might even get the chance to watch a young family of geese, the goslings following behind their Mom, and Dad keeping the ones in back in line, or you might see them getting ready for their flight south in the fall, with the autumn leaves in their glory, but no matter what time of the year there will be the reflection of the sunrise, or set, on the lake as well, doubling the beauty.

Affordable housing is something else we still have in Portage, not as affordable as last year, but still affordable if you compare it to many places across the country. Whenever I do some research on what it would cost to move back to where I grew up, I realize just how affordable iving here is, and how much yard comes with our houses here too. A great place to raise a family. My chidren spent many hours building forts, tree forts or snow forts, great fun and sense of accomplishment.
I'm planning on getting out and starting to knock on a few doors to get to know and keep in touch with the members of the community here, just incase they know of anyone that might be interested in Selling or Buying a home in the near future. A great way to get some exercise as well. Thought I would maybe start taking some pictures of the neighbourhoods I am in at the same time and adding them to this blog. I'm often surprised to find a unique home tucked away in an area that I hadn't realized was there, even though I lived in this area for almost 24 years.
If you know of someone that has a magnificent yard, or interior feature in their home, if they would allow, I would love to be able to share it with people through this blog. I think it will show just how much pride Portager's have in their community.
Sunset at Delta Marsh, and pelicans. There are all kinds of wildlife at Delta Beach, and it seems pretty close to an ocean, very hard to see the other side, the biggest difference, its WARM in the summer, lots of beach, shallow a wonderful place to take the family for a picnic and a splash. Later in the summer they might even go frog hunting, just to see if they can catch one.
I live on a family farm (it's been in the family for over 100 years) 1-2 way between Delta Beach and Portage la Prairie. 13 kms either way. That is another thing about Portage, it's a short commute to your job, school, the store, where ever you might be heading. Even though I live in the country it still only takes me 10-15 minutes to get to the office.
My home, which I designed inside and out. Wish I had a gardener sometimes, as I never seem to be able to keep up.
This picture says its all (but the pic is not of me just incase you're wondering)
