What to do, what to do.

Whether you are new to the area or have lived here your whole life I feel like we are all searching for more things to do. Maybe it’s just me but when people ask me what there is to do around here I seem to draw a blank. I have compiled a list of things to do for both the outdoorsy athletic type and the more intellectual indoorsy people.

Eastlink Centre: I personally have yet to be able to visit the Eastlink Centre but from what I have heard it has plenty to offer in the entertainment category. It offers aquatics (including a flowrider), a fitness centre, a running track, and indoor courts (with various drop-in sports scheduled). The Eastlink Centre is open from 5:30 am-10:30 pm.

Bowling Stones: This ten pin bowling alley has regular ten pin bowling, glow-in the dark bowling, and an arcade. There is also a league if you are an avid bowler. For those of us who bowl solely for fun the hours vary depending on the season but with a quick phone call or visit to their website the information is easily found.

The Reach: The Reach Centre, located across from Kal-Tire near Tony Roma’s (white oval building), is a gem that few people in this town know of. It offers a fitness centre that you can use for free anytime between the hours of 8am-9pm Mon.-Fri. and 10am-6pm on Saturdays. Not only that but it offers childcare for a low cost. Located just upstairs is a quaint café when you can enjoy a post workout meal. Along with this it has drop-in volleyball on Mondays from 7-9 for only $5. It also offers several yoga classes which days vary. The best place to find info on The Reach is there facebook page which they answer questions promptly or by giving them a call.

Drop-in Sports: Grande Prairie offers several different drop-in sports besides volleyball at The Reach. There is volleyball, badminton, and ball hockey all offered at different schools for 18+ for only $5. The schedule and locations can all be found on the website.

           Muskoseepi Park:

In the summer Mini Links Mini Golf is a great choice for a family outing or a date night. Located at Muskoseepi Park the 18 hole course is sure to bring laughter and a good time. For those with a competitive edge you can be playing for not only bragging rights but also ice cream, which is, situated right there also. After the game it’s relaxing to go for a walk on the paved trails, or for those with little ones who have extra energy, the park is a good alternative.

In the winter Muskoseepi also has activities to take part in. With all the snow we get we might as well make use of it and go toboganning at the hill located there. When temperatures are a little too chilly the pavilion is a great place to buy hot chocolate and warm up. If sitting on a sled going down a hill and possibly over jumps isn’t your idea of fun they also offer skating (weather permitting) on the pond right outside the pavilion.

            Montrose Cultural Centre:

Grande Prairie Public Library: For those who would prefer to stay indoors and expand their mind the local library is a great place to go. You can sit next to a warm fireplace reading a book on any topic that interests you. If movies or music are more your style you can take out a movie and watch it right there in one of the designated stations. The library also offers computers with WiFi if you do not have access at home.

Art Gallery of Grande Prairie: Not all of us have the ability to create art but that does not mean we cannot appreciate the work done by others. The gallery features both a permanent collection and exhibits which change more regularly. Not only is the art gallery a fantastic place to get our creativity flowing but it is FREE! It’s hard to beat free.

Grande Prairie Live Theatre: Grande Prairie Live Theatre is a great way to support the arts locally. They spend countless hours working hard to prepare different plays throughout the year all for our viewing pleasure. To find out more information you can call the box office or visit the website.
